Two people lost their lives after a plane crashed into Lake Hickory Sunday afternoon, according to the City of Hickory. Soon after the crash, there were more than 18,000 power outages in Catawba and Caldwell Counties, according to Duke Energy. Power has since been restored.

There were more than 50,000 power outages in the Charlotte area Monday just before 6 p.m., according to Duke Energy. The power losses were concentrated in Mecklenburg, Iredell, Rowan and Cabarrus counties to include areas in and around Charlotte, Salisbury, Statesville, Hickory, Gastonia and Concord.
