The City of Orlando's Streets and Stormwater Division has raised a water Alert for Lake Lawne in West Orlando due to concerns over potential increases in E. coli counts resulting from a recent sanitary waste spill. The incident occurred near the intersection of Barry and Norwood Streets, just southwest of the Mercy Drive and West Colonial intersection.The cause of the contamination was traced back to a partially open valve, which allowed sanitary waste to flow into nearby stormwater ditches and the street. To mitigate the risk to public health, warning signs have been placed at Barnett Park's boat ramp, Lake Lawne Park, and the entrance to the fishing pier until further notice.
