Safety Report: Florida Department of Health Issues Advisory on Unsafe Water Quality at Bowditch Point Park, Bowditch Point Park, Estero Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach, Florida, USA

News Report

50 Estero Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach, 33931 Florida, United States

The Florida Department of Health has recently issued a public advisory regarding the water quality at Bowditch Point Park, citing concerns about its safety for swimming. Routine testing conducted by health officials has revealed elevated levels of bacteria in the waters of both Cape Coral Yacht Club and Bowditch Point Park.

Specifically, the recreational water quality at these locations did not meet the established criteria for Enterococcus bacteria. This discovery raises concerns about potential health risks associated with exposure to contaminated water. The contamination sources are currently under investigation, with stormwater runoff, pets, wildlife, and sewage being identified as possible contributors to the elevated bacteria levels.

As a result, the Florida Department of Health strongly advises against swimming or any direct contact with the water at Bowditch Point Park until further notice. To address the situation, the Florida Department of Health will be conducting additional water quality tests at Bowditch Point Park.
