Employees who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms or who test positive at work should be separated from others and sent home. Be as considerate and sympathetic as possible when sending your employee home. Advise the employee to contact their doctor and follow CDC guidelines.

You should let your supervisor know if you think you have been in close contact with a COVID-19 case or if you have symptoms. Workers should stay home unless they need medical care. Employers must provide at least 5 days or 40 hours of paid sick leave per year to their employees in California.

At least 7 days have passed since symptoms first appeared and they have a negative viral test (either NAAT or antigen testing) within 48 hours before returning to work.
